It is a great, personal privilege to assist the next generation of scholars achieve their goals. Dr. Kabiri is passionate about advising and mentoring, particularly in the areas most related to sports medicine & exercise physiology: medicine, rehabilitation, and exercise science.
In addition to directing you to additional resources, she is also happy to write letters of recommendation for her students. See below for descriptions of the different types of academic advising available as well as details on scheduling an appointment.
Major Advising (Sports Medicine & Exercise Physiology)
Want to learn more about the Sports Medicine & Exercise Physiology degree? Interested in what types of careers are available with this degree after graduation? Ready to officially declare as a SMEP major? Major advising appointments are available! These appointments can also be used to plan your courses for the upcoming semester and discuss progress toward your degree and post-graduation goals.
Divisional Advising (Natural Sciences)
Dr. Kabiri also has a record of service as the Divisional Advisor for the Natural Sciences at McMurtry college. If you are an undeclared Murt undergraduate with questions regarding any program in the Wiess School of Natural Sciences, feel free to reach out for a divisional advising appointment! She also is happy to help natural science Murt students who might be struggling academically during their first year get a plan in place for success. Go Team Murt!

Through her work with the Health Professions Advising Committee, Dr. Kabiri is well-equipped to assist with academic advising for students who intend to pursue a career as a physician or other medical professional. Feel free to schedule an academic advising appointment and discuss anything from the latest trends in medical school admissions to how a degree in sports medicine and exercise physiology applies to a career in medicine.
Pre-PT/Allied Health/Rehabilitation
As a licensed physical therapist, Dr. Kabiri is very passionate about assisting the next generation of allied health and rehabilitation professionals. Whether you have questions about which courses to take, need assistance with finding opportunities to obtain volunteer or observation hours, or just want to learn more about rehabilitation professions, schedule an appointment for academic advising!
Exercise Science
A career in the exercise sciences offers opportunities to enter the workforce directly after graduation or to pursue additional training, certifications, or graduate school. As a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association and an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, Dr. Kabiri is happy to discuss the wide-variety of exercise-related careers and certifications open to graduates and help connect you with resources to build your resume.
Prospective Students (High School and Transfer)
Not yet an Owl but interested in a degree in Sports Medicine & Exercise Physiology? Are you curious about the degree plan or potential careers after graduation? Feel free to schedule an advising appointment as a prospective student. These appointments are designed for high school and transfer students who have not yet been accepted to Rice. Please note that while parents/guardians are always welcome to attend, appointments should be requested and scheduled by the prospective student to start building the advisor/advisee relationship.
Appointments
Advising sessions are available in-person or virtually but are by appointment only. Requests for letters of recommendation also require an appointment to secure the undivided attention to the task every student deserves.
